1. We use Windows on all the computers, while Esomo is implemented on the basis of FreeBSD. How is it going to cooperate with our network?

Esomo can be used in all Ethernet networks, which support VPN, no matter what operational system is installed on your computer, since Esomo operates on the protocol level and lower.

2. Why FreeBSD was chosen as a basis operational system?

Currently, FreeBSD is widely-used as a basis for more than 50% of servers. It is a powerful BSD UNIX operational system, which is supported by the united developer team. FreeBSD allowed us to implement many processes on the core level, and that significantly increased Esomo's efficiency.

3. Can FreeBSD be substituted for Linux?

No. Most of the processes are operated on the core level and cannot be separated from the operational system. Even though the software cannot be transferred to a different operational system, the users enjoy program's high stability and efficiency.

4. When connecting to Esomo the Link indicator on the netcard does not work. What may cause the problem?

This may be caused by mechanical problems with the connection between your computer and the Esomo server. Please check whether:

  • the connectors are not properly plugged in the netcard slots on your computer and/or the Esomo server (or a switch, if you use one);
  • the cable that connects the computers is properly clamped (if the computer directly connected to the Esomo server, the "crossover" method should be used for cable clamping);
  • the cable is neither broken nor inflected;
  • the netcards on both computers work properly.

5. Cannot establish a VPN connection with Esomo; the browser displays the "The webpage cannot be found" message instead of the authorization form.

Check if there is a physical connection between your computer and the Esomo server, using the ping command (for example, ping 192.168.1.1, where 192.168.1.1 is the Esomo computer IP address).
If a firewall is installed on your computer, please check if it does not block packets from Esomo.

6. Authorization form on the webpage does not display, although the webpage itself downloads with no problem.

The problem is caused by malfunction of the ActiveX control, which is a part of autoVPN. Check if:

  • your web browser supports ActiveX elements (if not, it is necessary to install an ActiveX Control plug-in for the version of your browser);
  • JavaScript is enabled in the browser settings (it should be enabled);
  • ActiveX elements are allowed to download and run in the browser settings (they should be allowed);
  • Active webpage content is not blocked by a firewall or other software (it should be allowed).

7. Cannot establish a VPN connection with Esomo. The authorization form webpage downloads correctly, however when establishing a connection Windows gives the "The computer is not responding…" error message.

Default system settings guarantee a proper VPN connection with Esomo. This problem may occur when an attempt to establish a connection with Esomo is blocked. For example, a firewall can block a GRE connection and treat Esomo's attempts to establish a connection with a user computer as a port scanning (a hacker attack), and therefore blocks it. A rule allowing GRE connections should be set in the firewall. Also, you might need to decrease the security level for the attack detector, so that it would block connections only when more than one port is being scanned.

8. The time users access the internet is displayed incorrectly in the statistics. I cannot view the current statistics.

In the BIOS of the computer with Esomo the date is set incorrectly. Open BIOS (by pressing Del or F2 right after you turn on your computer) and check the Date and Time values in the Main section (depending on the version of BIOS, this section may also be named STANDARD CMOS SETUP or Standard CMOS Features).

9. The HTTP redirector does not work. When I type a website address in the browser, the authorization page does not download. However if I type the Esomo server IP address, everything works fine.

The HTTP redirector will not work if you enter an address such as www.site.ru/folder1 or www.site.ru/index.html. The HTTP redirector will work only if you enter google.com or www.site.org. If the problem persists, it can be solved by performing one of the following:

  • In the Esomo settings, enable dynamic DHCP (Server Settings -> the DHCP inlay -> enable Dynamic DHCP). In the local network connection setting on your computer, enable "Automatically Get IP Address" and "Obtain DNS Server Address Automatically" (Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Network Connections -> Local network connection -> Properties -> Networking/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) -> Properties).
  • If a static IP address is assigned to your computer in the local network connection settings, and you wish to leave it unchanged, specify the Esomo server local IP address both as a general gateway and as a preferred DNS server (Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Network connections -> Local network connection -> Properties -> Networking/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) -> Properties).
  • Check if the primary DNS server specified in the Esomo settings is properly functioning (Edit -> Server Settings -> System settings -> Primary DNS server).
