Products - Esomo - How It Works

The server part of Esomo should be installed on a separate computer. The computer must be connected both to the local network and the internet provider, thus becoming a controlled router with powerful billing functions. All the rest local network computers must have no independent connection to the internet: all interactions between user computers and the internet will be accomplished through Esomo.

After the server part is installed, it is necessary to adjust the system with the help of Esomo Admin. To do that, you can use any of the local network computers operated by Windows (version 98/NT 4.0 and higher). You will need to establish a VPN connection with the Esomo server, launch Esomo Admin, and then connect to the Esomo Database.

The built-in Esomo firewall will block unauthorized users attempts to access the internet through the Esomo server. That is why it is necessary to create a list of all the users who need an access to the internet and/or Esomo settings. Personal logins and passwords should be assigned to each of the users.

After Esomo is adjusted, the users will receive their logins and passwords. No additional settings (such as proxy server address, connection ports, etc.) are required on the user computers. Esomo supports all network services with a user-transparent access to the web, as if the users were connected to the internet directly, and not through a public gateway.

Before connecting to the internet or adjusting Esomo, users should establish a VPN connection with the Esomo server. To do that, open the web browser and download the authorization page for entering login and password. The Esomo server will then verify the login and the password, and if they are valid, an encrypted tunnel VPN connection will be automatically established between Esomo and the user computer, on top of the existing network. A virtual network connection with its own IP address and a subnet mask will become active on the user computer.

As soon as a VPN connection between the user computer and the Esomo server is established, the user will be able to work in the internet and use all network services (instant messengers, e-mail, etc), or configure the Esomo server with the help of Esomo Admin.

As a user works in the internet, Esomo's billing system keeps a record of traffic and connection time, and as soon as the limit is exceeded, the user will be disconnected from the internet. A user can connect to the Esomo server and access the internet from any computer of the network, since the tracking is performed according to personal logins and passwords. If a VPN connection is interrupted (or terminated), the computer will be cut off from the Esomo server, and internet access will become unavailable.
